on the street

yesterday i fell asleep in the north park blocks, among all the others that sleep in the north park blocks on a daily basis. i unfortunately have a feeling that it was a sleep where your mouth is open (you know how you know that you're doing it, but are too tired to do anything about it?) and you're slightly drooling. i felt a little strange when i woke up, because there were people walking past and they were talking really loud about some chef named Josh at Portland City Grill. it scared me and i did that frightened "ahhhh!" and all your muscles jerk and you sit up really fast and look suspiciously around. dude, what's her problem?

patton get out of the house

beyond the 100 degree temperature, portland is intense and on the cusp of something. though that anticipation is exciting, it also brings with it a matter of uncertainty that i don't seem to be handling well. keep rotating between the faint (get up and dance, will you?) and over the rhine (please keep raining), not sure what my outlook should be. a little tired of holding the world together, but nothing that a shady tree in the park and an anne lamotte-ish prayer can't handle. help me help me help me come through this a good woman.

in other news, peter reminded me of a game that i made up when i was younger. it's entitled 'Patton Get Out of the House'. i had this plastic little chipmunk and a fisher-price house that opened up so you could see the cross-section. i named the chipmunk Patton (?) and would put him in the kitchen. i'd then yell PATTON GET OUT OF THE HOUSE! and would knock him out of the kitchen. and that was it.

our roses are overwhelmingly large this year. they're so proud of themselves that i feel guilty for not liking them.

when will it end?

the dominican republic was amazing, in so many ways. we were welcomed back to the northwest with approximately fifteen straight days of rain. sunshine feels like a distant relative. those of us on fremont street are waiting for the days of gillian welch and barefeet and ruthie's home cooking from the garden.

santiago

sunset, northern dominican republic. in a hotel waiting for our 6am flight tomorrow, via 4-hour taxi. exhausted, in the best way possible. new york city waits for one more go at it - we'll see if we have it in us.
